The font is the place where people of all ages are baptised as followers of Christ. It is near the door of the church because baptism is the start of a Christian’s journey through life.
Our font dates from 1520. Three of the shields show the scourges, hammer, pincers, and nails associated with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The base of the font is upside down! If you look at it the other way up, the carvings read A M G P D T, the initials of the Latin Hail Mary: Ave Maria Gratia Plena Dominus Tecum.
