ST BARTHOLOMEW'S PILGRIM TRAIL

Welcome... take your time

Look around at the space, the carved pillars and the high ceiling which speak of the greatness of God. People have prayed on this site for many centuries. Today it is a place of peace and safety for you.

Pause and think of the person you are and the person God wants you to be.

Loving God,
forgive what I have been,
help me to amend what I am
and direct what I shall be.
Amen.

When you are ready, go to the font by the door

The font is the place where people of all ages are baptised as followers of Christ. It is near the door of the church because baptism is the start of a Christian’s journey through life.

Our font dates from 1520. Three of the shields show the scourges, hammer, pincers, and nails associated with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The base of the font is upside down!  If you look at it the other way up, the carvings read A M G P D T, the initials of the Latin Hail Mary: Ave Maria Gratia Plena Dominus Tecum.

Pause and think of the balance of good and evil in your life.

Lead me, Lord, from death to life,
from falsehood to truth.
Lead me from despair to hope,
from fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love,
from war to peace.
Lead me to follow in your steps. Amen
